LUX: New Wave of Contemporary Art
Exhibition Dates: September 4th (exhibition preview), September 5th (Open to Public) - December 31st, 2023
Light (‘Lux’ in Latin) has endured as a symbol rich in meaning for thousands of years. It represents creation at the genesis of all things, it is a metaphor for the wisdom’s illumination and is now all-pervasive in our digitally saturated reality.
LUX: A New Wave of Contemporary Art showcases installations by up to 13 international contemporary artists exploring the powerful symbolism of Light, with light itself as its primary medium. We invited our artists to reflect on three key concepts: Genesis light, Nature light, and Digital light so that this curated selection could explore the dynamic and transformative capabilities of light itself, providing a thought-provoking presentation on its abstract attributes and its profound influence on our perception of the world.
This exhibition offers visitors an opportunity to rediscover an ancient, mystical approach to ‘light’ through the lens of modern and contemporary art, leveraging the full potential of 21st-century digital technologies. These artists, who explore and manipulate with ‘light’ in their work, aim to challenge preconceived dichotomies between tradition and innovation, nature and technology, tangibility and intangibility, and human and post-human. Their goal is to forge new ways of understanding our place in the world. Visitors will embark on a captivating journey through the radiant tapestry of our existence, as we strive to illuminate the world within and around us.
