Heart Space

The artwork "Heart Space” by Krista Kim is a groundbreaking installation that premiered at Art Dubai 2024 sponsored by Julius Baer, the first collaborative biometric, AI-generative immersive artwork in history.   This immersive experience is a confluence of art, technology, and human interaction that transforms individual heartbeats into a collective visual symphony.

Upon entering the installation, guests find themselves in a mirrored room that extends the space infinitely in all directions. One wall of the room is dedicated to a full LED screen, which acts as the canvas for the artwork. Participants are invited to connect to a heartbeat sensor ECG device. This intimate act of sharing one's heartbeat sets the stage for the transformation of biological rhythms into a visual language.

The sensor captures the heartbeat and, through custom AI generative software, translates it into mesmerizing, dynamic patterns and colors displayed on the LED screen within the room. Each heartbeat contributes to the generative artwork, with patterns evolving and adapting in real-time, changing with each new participant's pulse. The experience is capped at two minutes per heartbeat to ensure a fluid and ever-changing tapestry of biometric art.

Kim's "Heart Space" is an exploration of oneness. It merges technology with the organic to create a shared digital environment. It is a social sculpture where separate individuals come together to form a single, living artwork. The installation's mirrored walls and the rhythmic light patterns offer a hypnotic, meditative space where strangers can connect through the universal language of the heartbeat, synchronizing in a moment of visual harmony.

The artwork goes beyond visual stimulation; it is a shared labor, a cooperative creative process that embodies the essence of togetherness. Each visitor leaves a transient, yet lasting imprint on the canvas, weaving into the social tapestry of "Heart Space." Bathed in the symbiotic algorithms of light and color, the artwork is a testament to human connection and the beauty found within our collective experiences.
